Getting Started
What is LunchLens?
LunchLens is an AI-powered compliance tracking system designed specifically for school meal programs. It uses computer vision technology to automatically verify that meals meet USDA pattern requirements, capture documentation for administrative reviews, and generate compliance reports—all in real-time.
How difficult is it to set up?
Setup is remarkably simple. Most districts are fully operational within 30 minutes. Our implementation process includes: (1) Account creation and staff training, (2) Camera setup at serving lines, (3) Menu input and customization, (4) Staff training session. Our customer success team guides you through each step and provides ongoing support.
What equipment do I need?
LunchLens works with standard tablets or smartphones. We recommend iPads or Android tablets with at least 8MP cameras. The device mounts at the end of the serving line to capture tray images. Most districts use equipment they already own, though we can provide hardware recommendations if needed.
Does LunchLens work offline?
Yes! LunchLens includes offline mode for schools with limited connectivity. Images and data are stored locally and automatically sync when internet connection is restored. All core compliance features work offline.
Compliance & Accuracy
How accurate is the AI detection?
Our AI achieves 98.7% accuracy in meal component identification. The system is trained on millions of school meal images and continuously learns from corrections made by nutrition professionals. All detections include confidence scores, and staff can easily review and adjust any uncertain identifications.
Is LunchLens USDA-approved?
While USDA doesn't formally "approve" compliance software, LunchLens is designed to meet all federal meal pattern requirements. We work closely with state child nutrition agencies and are recognized by multiple state agencies as a reliable compliance tool. Many districts have successfully used LunchLens documentation during USDA administrative reviews.
Can LunchLens handle special dietary needs?
Yes. LunchLens can track accommodations for allergies, religious restrictions, and medical dietary needs. You can create custom meal patterns and the system will verify compliance based on those specific requirements. All documentation is securely stored for administrative review purposes.
What meal periods does LunchLens support?
LunchLens supports both breakfast and lunch programs for all grade groups (K-5, 6-8, 9-12). The system automatically applies the correct meal pattern requirements based on the meal period and grade group you select.
Privacy & Security
Does LunchLens collect student data?
No. LunchLens is designed with student privacy as a core principle. The system captures only images of meal trays, never student faces or identifying information. No personally identifiable student data is collected or stored. We are fully compliant with FERPA, COPPA, and state student privacy laws.
How is my data protected?
We employ bank-level security measures including: end-to-end encryption for data transmission, AES-256 encryption for stored data, multi-factor authentication, regular security audits, role-based access controls, and 24/7 security monitoring. Our infrastructure is hosted on secure, SSAE-18 certified servers.
Who can access our district's data?
Only authorized users within your district can access your data. You control user permissions through role-based access. Impact View staff can access your data only with explicit permission for technical support purposes. We never sell, share, or use your data for purposes other than providing the LunchLens service.
How long is data retained?
Meal tray images are retained for 3 years to support administrative reviews, and compliance reports for 5 years as required by USDA. You can export or delete your data at any time, though we recommend maintaining records per USDA retention requirements. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
Pricing & Support
How much does LunchLens cost?
Pricing is based on the number of meals tracked per day. Plans start at $299/month for up to 500 meals daily. Most districts see a positive ROI within the first month through increased reimbursements and staff time savings. Visit our pricing page or contact us for a customized quote for your district.

Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. We offer month-to-month and annual contracts. Monthly subscriptions can be cancelled anytime with 30 days notice. Annual contracts offer significant savings and can be cancelled at the end of the contract term. Before cancellation, you'll have 30 days to export all your data.
Technical Questions
Does LunchLens integrate with our POS system?
LunchLens works alongside your existing POS system without requiring integration. However, we do offer optional integrations with major POS providers (Titan, PrimeroEdge, SchoolCafé, etc.) for enhanced workflow. Contact us to discuss integration options for your specific POS system.
What if the AI makes a mistake?
Staff can easily review and correct any detections. The system learns from these corrections, continuously improving accuracy. You can also flag images for review and add notes. Most users spend just a few minutes per day reviewing uncertain detections.
Can multiple schools in our district share one account?
Yes! LunchLens is designed for multi-site districts. You can manage multiple schools under one district account, each with their own menus, staff, and reports. District administrators can view consolidated reports across all schools while site managers access only their school's data.
How do updates and new features work?
LunchLens is cloud-based, so updates are automatic with no downtime. New features are rolled out regularly based on user feedback and regulatory changes. You'll receive advance notice of major updates via email. All updates are included in your subscription at no additional cost.
